gedc1623Community Based Initiative for Rural Development (CBIRD) is a Ugandan Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded in 2007 by local Ugandans.

We are non-political and non profit, and focus on service delivery and research which can improve the plight of rurally isolated schools in Uganda.

CBIRD is devoted to activities that are directed toward improving the performance of rural primary schools to ensure sustainable development of rural communities, to help achieve our goal of ‘Empowerment through Education


CBIRD engages in;

  • Reconstruction of rural primary schools;
  • Promotion of equal education opportunities for girls and boys, men and women;
  • Provision of scholastic materials, supporting games and sports as well as well music dance and drama;
  • Capacity building;
  • Research and advocacy;
  • Poverty reduction.


gedc1634The purpose of this website is to build awareness and support for the problem of rural remoteness in Uganda, and the problems faced by isolated communities in educating themselves and their children.
